Louis Epstein was a prominent Chattanooga attorney for over 50 years and the son of Russian immigrants. Living above his father's grocery store on 8th Street, he opened his law practice in the 50's and married Charlyne Abelson, a native Chattanoogan also of immigrant parents.

Demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit, he began building his signature 2 bedroom brick duplexes in the late 60's and continued on into the 70's, eventually owning over 150 properties throughout Chattanooga.

Both landlord and attorney to many of his tenants, Louis had a reputation for his generosity, his humor and his pride in achieving his American Dream.
